CanAm VRL member Nurrec and Mrs Nurrec are pleased to announce the arrival of their newest family member.

Felicity Rose was born at 10:47 AM this morning. A very happy and healthy baby girl of 8lbs, 14.9oz.

Her helmet and seat fittings dates are still TBD, but I am sure Nurrec will have her ready for the race team in no time at all.

On behalf of all of the membership of Can Am VRL, congratulations to the entire family.

First and foremost, I want to apologize for the mess that this race turned into, mainly because of the multiple restarts.

First and foremost, I want to apologize for the mess that this race turned into, mainly because of the multiple restarts. That will NOT happen again.
At this point, we are now 2 races and 4 weeks into the season. Drivers should have had enough opportunity to practice and get familair with the basic mechanincs of the game. We will no longer run the risk of leaving a functional room for a flawed one over a driver not operating the interface correctly. At this point, I think we are all painfully aware that once the qualifying session ends the following sequence needs to happen:

  • Driver MUST hit the READY button withn 2 minutes (countdown at top center of screen)
  • Drivers should use those 2 minutes to verify they have the correct setup and pit strategy loaded.

Failure by any driver to address the above items on their own within the 2 minute countdown will NOT justify a restart in the future. We had at least 2 drivers be unable to race in the restarted room even thoguh they were ready in the initial room. That is unacceptable.

Dedicated Server

We will no longer attempt to use it until we have had some serious fixes introduced. Between the random application of game settings and the severe network lags seen, the Dedicated Server is currently an unacceptable mess. As we did for the first 2 races, I will host the official race rooms going forward. If for some reason I am unavailable, then one of the 3 other panel members will host that event.

Disconnected Drivers

For those drivers that were not able to rejoin the event on Saturday, whiel it doesn't completely make up for the fact that oyu weren't able to race, know that you will be scored since you did "show up" for the race. You will be treated as a DNF rather than a DNS.

Driving Standards

During the race, there were several avoidable issues both on track and in the pits. While we all fully acknowledge that our first concern is having Fun, there should still be a certain level of committment by all drivers to the quality of the league as a whole. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that all drivers spend at least a few hours prior to each race practicing not only the track itself, but also things that every driver should be familair with during a race:

  • Practice pit stops.
    • Pit entry and pit exit are critical
  • Practice using the ICM to change pit strategies
  • Be fully familiar with basic game menu mechanics
  • Practice multiclass either online or against AI to get comfortable dealing with traffic
  • Use the HUD tools:
    • Relative Screen
    • Track Map
    • Mirrors (real or virtual)
    • These three are considered "mandatory"

The days of showing up on race day and expecting to be quick/confident are over. This is no longer Gran Turismo. Things are far more complex and far more "alive" than they have ever been. As a result, this requires a bit more effort and committment on everyone's part in order to ensure the league races remain fun for all involved.

While we will not go so far as to make practices mandatory, it is Highly Recommended and encouraged for the benefit of everyone invovled that all drivers put in at least some proper practice effort prior to each race.
